Another semester

No stitching this week.  I decided to knit the boy child a hat.  And as it went along, I decided I'd see if I could finish it so he could have it with him when we dropped him off at school.  I started it on Monday.

It's the sockhead hat by Kelly McClure of Boho knits.  I used sock yarn from Malabrigos in Aguas.

The hat kept growing during the week.

Until I was finally doing the decreases.  I thought I wouldn't make it though.  Until right before we left for Boston,

I finished it!  And at my sister's, I added a poor little pom pom, my first try at one.

So it was done and ready to be in the boy child's hat collection.

I also managed Fussy Cut Star number 3 on Friday.

Still not pleased with my fussy cutting, but whatever.

While still at home, the boy child went from this.

To this, thanks to one of his good friends, who gave him a haircut.

I do wish the child would get a haircut more often than twice a year.  lol!  Takes too much effort to get used to the extremes.

So we had to drop the boy child off in Boston at his new apartment on Sunday.  He starts the new semester of college on Tuesday and is settling in nicely.  It gets a bit easier each time we drop him off, but I still hate it.  And of course, we miss him.

Mia does too.  She misses his clothes too.

Thanks as always for stopping by and saying hi.  Hope everyone in the US has a good MLK Day.  It's good to remember Reverend Dr. King.   Have a great week!

What a great hat! You are so amazing to just whip that out for him. :)
Sorry your boy had to go back to college. I know that has got to be really hard. I can't imagine the day when mine flies the coop. It's closer than I want to think about.
Your fussy cut start is awesome! I almost signed up for a class on the same star quilt. I will be anxious to see yours. I think your fussy cutting looks great, so don't be too hard on yourself. It's really hard to do.
Hope all is well friend. I need to read about 20 of your last posts to see what wonderful things you are working on. I"m so behind!
Take care and many hugs!

Nice colors on the new hat! Your fussy star looks great, but I understand that we see things others don't. So it's OK to be fussy about your fussy!

Love the hat -- especially the yarn and color! What a big difference the haircut made! I love the star. We are always more critical of our own work than any one elses.

Love the hat you knit for the boy child. Poor Mia... she's going to have to adjust to being an 'only' child again! :-) lol

Beautiful color! Looks as if it will be do a good job keeping your lad's head warm after such a dramatic loss of hair :)! My husband never cut his hair when he was younger and I have the pics to prove it!
Have a great week,
Robyn

I like the hat! I met the dude when he was 23 and got his haircut twice a year. It took a long time (I blame grad school) but he does get his haircut much more regularly now. Keep the faith!

You knit just as quickly as you stitch Margaret. Love the hat and the color of yarn too. Even though it's tough to drop them off at school, it's rewarding to see how our children, and grandchildren in my case, grow up so to become such wonderful young adults.

Hugs to you and sweet Mia.

That's a lot of hat to knit in such a short space of time - looks good though. There is an art to making pompoms - I recently bought a book about them and the author uses a completely different method to any I've seen. Mia looks so cute the way she is resting her head.

So, you have those flying knitting needles, too! Such a pretty yarn selection. Another nice star, too. Mia looks like she's settled into her empty nest.

Awww, Mia does look like she's pining for your boy already.

Love that new hat you knitted! I gotta find and make some knitty friends locally who can help educate my brain onto knitting! lol.

I like the new star you made!

Your boy is off to a great start - new look, new hat!

I really like the subtle color variations in the hat you knit. That's what always draws me to a particular yarn. I'm sure he'll get a lot of use out of it!

I hope you're settling back into your empty nest well. Not too long until spring break!

Love your hat. I'm sure that the boy child loves it because you made it for him. It will keep his noggin (head) warm :).
I think that your fussy star looks wonderful btw.

Great hat! Just the right degree of slouch. Pretty colors to make it fun to stitch and still masculine enough for a boy to like too!

What a difference a haircut makes! Good thing he has the new hat to keep his ears warm now!

Way to go on the hat! Very nice! Love your fussy cutting. It's so fun to make stars that way. Glad you got some time in with the boy. Have a good week!

LOVE the hat! especially the pompom!
It reminds me of one I tried to knit when I was a teenager. Didn't quite work out, though I can't remember why.
THis weather is ridiculous!
And after this, the cold! I hate that worse than the snow!

Wow, Margaret, that hat is really cool. You were so fast knitting it, and even add a pompom. Great job!
Your new fussy star looks so good, I can't see anything wrong in it. I wish I could do this cutting and sewing so perfectly.

I've seen a lot of those sockhead hats on Ravelry and on video podcasts but I think that yarn makes the one you made very special.
I think your boy is going to need that hat now he has been shorn!
Mia always seems to find the very best and warmest place in the house :) What a clever kitty.
